The Sr. Project Manager is responsible for leading efforts to deliver large, complex, high-priority projects which often require considerable resources and high levels of functional integration. The Sr. PM may also serve as "lead" on large client accounts, working closely with the Account Management team to nurture client relationships and traffic project work across larger teams of multiple Project Mangers. In all instances, the Sr. Project Manager must deliver projects on time and within the established estimate, have excellent documentation experience and superior technical knowledge, and be both internally team-focused and externally client-facing as required.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Work
- Determine, document and manage project scope, goals, timelines and milestones.
- Capture business requirements and use cases and drive them through the production life cycle (e.g. information architecture, user interface design, content strategy and development, visual design and front-end coding, usability and distribution).
- Provide input/support to Management and Business Development teams in: creation of account business plans and strategies, understanding customer requirements and negotiation of product definitions, execution of customer product acceptance, resolution of product issues, creation of product pricing and forecasts, and capture of additional business opportunities.
- Operate according to BLITZ policies and processes.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to improve work processes.
- Assist in the development of lesser-experienced team member via exemplary work and mentorship.
- Demonstrate established methods and creatively seeks out new solutions in solving client and partner needs.
- Build relationships with existing clients.
Tactical Work
- Establish project scope and deliverables.
- Create and maintain accurate project documentation such as statements of work, functional specs, content docs, change orders, etc.
- Create project plan to ensure the project goals are communicated to all team members and kept within time and budget constraints. Maintain the project plan to ensure accuracy at all times. Execute the tasks as defined in the project plan.
- Acquire appropriate resources to meet project needs.
- Communicate the project plan to team members in order to align them to client/project goals.
- Conduct a kick-off meeting with all key stakeholders in order to announce the start of the project and review the overall project plan and gain consensus. At project completion, conduct a post-mortem meeting to ascertain lessons-learned and improve process for future projects.
- Manage teams of Designers, Programmers, Information Architects and others, as needed, through the life of the project.
- Plan and manage internal and external project communications, ensuring effective exchange of project information and deliverables.
- Conduct timely and productive review meetings; distribute agendas, communicate purpose, direct conversation to achieve goals within the time allotted, and provide subsequent meeting notes.
- Communicate project status with team members, management and stakeholders on an ongoing basis via weekly status reports and/or other methods as needed.
- Monitor and control project work, identifying variances, performing corrective actions and communicating to all stakeholders.
- Identify and implement the approved actions and workarounds required to mitigate project risks in order to minimize impact on the project.
- Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques in order to keep the project plan accurate, updated and reflective of authorized project changes; facilitate client acceptance of changes.
- Ensure completion of tasks through all phases of multiple projects simultaneously on time and on budget; responsible for project profitability.
- Track payment milestones and ensure the timely delivery of invoices.
- Accountable for flawless execution in own work and that of direct reports; pushes for same with project team members.
- Demonstrate qualities of diplomacy, problem solving and decisiveness, as well as the proven ability to balance many needs and remain detail oriented while tracking and organizing many resources
- Builds mutual trust and encourages respect and cooperation among team members. Motivates the team, boosts morale and ensures project efficiency.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree in Communications, Marketing, Engineering, or related area (or equivalent experience), MBA preferred.
- At least 5 - 7 years of experience in Web site, software or interactive medium production and project management, including expert knowledge of the Web site development process.
- Possess excellent creative, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to focus under pressure.
- Able to handle multiple priorities, while leading internal teams to the successful delivery of all projects.
- Able to handle large and/or multiple projects simultaneously.
- Expert in project risk assessment and course correction.
- Expert in account management tools (including MS Project), and capable of assessing need for new tools, identifying and implementing them.
